Example use case, not a customer story

How a construction contractor would track waste across live sites on QWTN

A building contractor with twelve live sites, four tipper lorries and waste going to several tips. It has to show where each load ended up.

  • 12live sites
  • 4tipper lorries
  • 5people with a login
  • £29Carrier, a month

An invented business. The team, fleet and volume figures are assumptions for this example, not results from a customer.

Who they are and what goes wrong

A groundworks and building contractor with twelve live sites for seven clients. It moves its own site waste in four tippers to a handful of transfer stations and landfills. A transport manager plans the work and each lorry has one driver.

Each site produces different waste: soil, concrete, timber, and now and then something hazardous. The records sit in twelve cabins and the client asks for a recycling figure by site.

A load goes to a transfer station, and nobody can say whether the onward leg has a note. When a regulator or a client asks where it ended up, the chain has gaps.

A day with QWTN

  1. MorningEach site is a collection siteClients are recorded with their sites, so a job is booked against the right address. The transport manager schedules the day and the drivers see their jobs in the driver app.
  2. On siteThe site manager signs on the driver’s phoneThe driver weighs or estimates the load, takes a photo and hands over the phone. If the site manager is not there, a signing link goes to them instead.
  3. Hazardous loadThe right record for the loadHazardous waste needs a consignment note, not a transfer note. QWTN builds the England and Wales note, including multi-collection rounds, and the Scotland special waste record or Northern Ireland pre-notification where the waste is moving there.
  4. At the tipLink the load to where it wentDeposit details are added to the collection so the chain is on record, and chains with no onward transfer are flagged as open.
  5. WeeklyCheck the skips on hireContainers are listed by site, with days on hire and anything past its return date, so a skip is not left on a site for a month.
  6. Client requestReport by siteWaste reporting gives tonnes by client, site and EWC code, with recycling rate, landfill diversion and carbon estimated from the DESNZ 2026 conversion factors, as a branded PDF or CSV.

What they use

  • Transfer chains and deposit details

Link a collection to where it was deposited. Open chains are flagged.

    Notes and chains
  • Hazardous consignment notes

England and Wales consignment notes, Scotland special waste records and Northern Ireland pre-notification deadlines.

    Hazardous consignments
  • Offline driver app

Weight, photo, signature and finish, one step per screen, and it works on a site with no signal.

  • Remote signing

A signing link for a site manager who is not there, with the moment of signing shown to you.

    E-signatures
  • Skips and containers

What is on which site, for how long, and what is overdue.

The plan that fits

Carrier, with five logins used well

The driver app, scheduling, container tracking and waste reporting are on Carrier, and the plan allows up to five people: the transport manager and four drivers. Site managers sign on the driver’s phone or from a link, so they do not need a login. Hazardous consignment notes and transfer chains come with an account.

What would change it. If site managers need to create notes themselves, or the team grows past five, Fleet has unlimited people.

  • Up to 5people on this plan

No VAT charged. QWTN is not VAT-registered, so the price you see is the price you pay.

What to check first

The plan and feature details that matter most for this example.

  • Recycling and landfill rates count only tonnes whose final route is recorded, so deposit details need to be filled in.
  • Carbon figures are estimates, with the method shown on each report.
  • Weighbridge tickets are on Fleet. On Carrier the driver enters the weight.
